Welcome

Hello! My name is Shannon Taylor. I'm a former editor living in the woods of Wisconsin with my husband, four children, and lots of pets. I created this blog as a place to gather my thoughts and share ideas as I squeeze in some writing whenever the kids aren't looking.

Awkward Fashion Moment?

Have you ever happened to see a video of the latest boy band (in this case, One Direction) and realize that you’re wearing the same outfit as one of the boys?

Did I wander into the wrong section at the Gap? I do tend to shop in a hurry…

It’s always so awkward for a teenage boy to show up at a family event dressed just like his mom, isn’t it? Or even worse, his grandma. Neither scenario has happened to my boys yet, but it might. Andrew’s basic uniform is athletic pants or shorts and solid Nike shirts (no stripes, thank you very much), but his friend came over the other day in cobalt blue pants, so it could be a matter of time.

I once had a pastel-striped turtleneck sweater I was fond of until Grandma Charlotte showed up at a family party wearing the exact same sweater (not at the same time, luckily). It was a very nice sweater, but it found its way into the Goodwill bag that night. Grandma Charlotte was incredibly cool, but I wasn’t ready to start dressing like her!

So what was your most awkward fashion moment? Have you ever shown up at an event wearing the same outfit as someone else? Or have you been the victim of a wardrobe malfunction? Please share!

(That’s me and my crew on Mother’s Day, in our non-identical outfits.)

Shannon, the outfit looks great on you. It looks like HE shopped in the wrong area!

On a Sunday morning during college, I met my friend in the hall to walk to church together. We laughed when we noticed our outfits: my white pants and light pink sweater and her light pink pants and white sweater. But when we met my fiance outside our dorm, he in his Miami Vice late-80s white pants and light pink & white shirt, we laughed hysterically. We were late, so we couldn’t change, and of course there was communion, so we had to walk up to the front together. Truly funny and truly humiliating.

Sometimes I feel like my whole life is one big awkward fashion moment. :-) I especially feel that way living in NYC. Ah well… On another note entirely – Happy Mother’s Day (belated)!

Oh, Marilyn, I can only imagine trying to be fashionable in New York. I’m sure you’re much cooler than you realize!
