A Mom's Year

Creating a comfortable life one moment at a time

March 17, 2011

Happy St. Patrick’s Day

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Here’s another amazing creation from i am baker. Click here to see what’s inside.

Did you catch a leprechaun? Once again, we did not. The little rascal was naughtier than ever this year, leaving rice in the cereal box, turning the milk green, and dumping flour all over the counter. He even ate all our chocolate shamrocks and left the wrappers strewn everywhere. Next year, we’ll really have to get serious with our trap.

The kids don’t have school today, so we’re off to buy new shoes, get a haircut or two, and find some birthday presents. We’ll end the day with corned beef and cabbage with my parents. Lá Fhéile Pádraig!

What a fantastic cake. Hope you’re having a nice St Patrick’s Day. The French version is going quite well!

I’m hopeful that you and your lovely girls (they have such beautiful smiles) catch a leprechaun next year. 🙂 Working in downtown NYC meant that I had a very different St. Patty’s Day, with the parade chaos. It was a bit rowdy for my taste, but I guess now I can say I was there.

You know, I really not a photographer either, but I’m trying to approach it like writing – if I just get started then it will get easier. And it has. The most fun part it that it truly has helped me see the world differently. I see shapes, colors, scenes, people, etc., differently, more clearly. It’s hard to describe but very exciting.

So, here’s a question – would you ever make a cake like this one? It’s absolutely beautiful, and I’m totally intimidated by it.

Will’s rowing coach sends daily updates that sta Will’s rowing coach sends daily updates that start with quotes like “The most dazzling human achievements are, in fact, the aggregate of countless individual elements, each of which is, in a sense, ordinary” (Angela Duckworth, author of GRIT). I’m not sure if all the rowing parents are getting these or if it’s just me because Coach Bruce despaired of Will checking his messages, but I appreciate the encouragement and inspiration! There’s something special about people who love something so much they’re compelled to share it, even when they could be resting on their (literal Olympic) laurels, and Bruce Beall is definitely one of those people. Good coaches and teachers are truly a blessing and a gift. (Yes, the reality of this being Will’s last season is hitting me.) @bainbridge.island.rowing
