A Mom's Year

Creating a comfortable life one moment at a time

Downton Abbey / Best Distraction Ever

Is anyone else hooked on Downton Abbey? I finally saw it last week and have spent the last few evenings watching all the season 1 episodes online to catch up. There’s so much to love: characters that run the gamut from the sweet and honorable Lord Grantham to the deliciously evil Mrs. O’Brien (those cold eyes!), gorgeous sets and costumes, and all the twists and turns you could hope for. And Maggie Smith.

I didn’t see tonight’s episode because I was still catching up, so I don’t know the latest. I’m hoping that Lady Violet gets her edge back (didn’t she seem sweeter at the end of season 1?) and that Mary and Edith start undermining each other again. Are they all behaving better because of the war? I think it’s more fun when they’re being awful.

Seeing as how my ancestors emigrated to the U.S. in hopes of a better life, I’m guessing I would have been one of the downstairs crew. Bummer. Would you welcome a life of leisure and huge staff, or would you feel like a fish in a bowl?

[ While I was searching for online episodes I came across Comic Relief’s spoof, Uptown Downstairs Abbey. Don’t you think they nailed it? And here’s Part 2: ]

Oh good! I put it in my Netflix queue but haven’t gotten around to it. I’ll have to bump it up on the list. 🙂

Isn’t it fantastic?!? It’s hard to wait between episodes. Now you can watch the parody and it’ll make sense!

I dug through some old photos and found these shot I dug through some old photos and found these shots from the 1992 Presidential Inaugural Parade. Special Olympics athletes and staff had the honor of marching. Such an exciting day, and I got to meet actor Chris Burke who played Corky Thatcher on “Life Goes On.”
