A Mom's Year

Creating a comfortable life one moment at a time

Olympic Tribute to Moms: The Best Job in the World

When I watched this video posted by a friend on Facebook, I wasn’t prepared to react so emotionally. I’m not exactly a competitive athlete (or trying to raise one), but I think the idea of supporting your child in whatever his or her passion is, whether it’s sports or music or writing, is a wonderful thing. Maybe the next time I stand, overwhelmed, looking at our calendar, I’ll think of this video and find a renewed sense of purpose!

Of course the video makes me think of my own mom, who carted me to piano lessons week after week, year after year. My parents were so young and didn’t have a lot of money, but Mom made that commitment and I’m so grateful for it. Did you have a passion that your parents helped you pursue?

And speaking of the Olympics, are you a fan? I enjoy watching the events, but my favorites are the “how I got here stories.” So much inspiration.

Ah, thank you Shannon, you made my day. I’ve been repaid a hundredfold, in many ways, but most especially in a shared love of music (and an accompanist when needed). Some of my favorite memories are when you played and we sang together and the pride I always felt when you accompanied school musical groups. You’re the best!

Welcome

Hello! My name is Shannon Taylor. I'm a long-time writer and editor from Minnesota surprised to find myself on an island in the Pacific Northwest. I'm sharing this adventure with my husband, four kids, and two dogs. I “published” my first newsletter when I was nine, and I’ve loved sharing ideas, stories, and information ever since. I hope you find something here to inspire you and help you create a comfortable, cozy life.

I dug through some old photos and found these shot I dug through some old photos and found these shots from the 1992 Presidential Inaugural Parade. Special Olympics athletes and staff had the honor of marching. Such an exciting day, and I got to meet actor Chris Burke who played Corky Thatcher on “Life Goes On.”
