A Mom's Year

Creating a comfortable life one moment at a time

January 15, 2013

As You Wish

Did this make you smile? Gabrielle Blair (Design Mom) featured Nathan Pyle‘s Princess Bride-inspired illustrations on her blog yesterday and asked her readers to share their favorite quotations from the movie.

There are dozens of great quotes, but the first one I thought of was “Life IS pain, Highness.” My dear husband says that to me when I start fussing. Not that I ever do.

Tim has a black T-shirt printed with one of those “Hello, My Name Is” stickers on it. Under the “My Name Is” part it says “Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.” It’s so funny to watch people’s reaction to the shirt. At first they’re wondering why this guy is wearing a dorky Hello sticker, then as they get closer and read it they get the joke.

I think the Twoo Wuv print would make a sweet Valentine’s Day gift. Gabrielle mentioned that she and her husband had received The Princess Bride as a wedding gift. I love that idea! You could put together a gift basket with champagne, glasses, a corkscrew, a candle or two, and some fun references to the movie, like peanuts and truffles (as in miracle pills). And slip one of the prints in, too.

Have you watched The Princess Bride lately? Do you have a favorite quote (or two, or three…)?

    One of my favorites:

“You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”

    I also like:

    “Meh-wedge…”

Thanks for kicking it off, Jonathan! Those are great. Isn’t it hard to believe it’s been more than 25 years since the movie came out?

Vizzini: You only think I guessed wrong! That’s what’s so funny! I switched glasses when your back was turned! Ha ha! You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders – The most famous of which is “never get involved in a land war in Asia”

Love it. How about “And remember, this is for posterity so be honest. How do you feel?”
