A Mom's Year

Creating a comfortable life one moment at a time

Keeping Kids Busy: Snow Day Edition

We got the call early this morning: Snow Day! Except we didn’t get snow so much as icy rain. Snowmen and skating were out, so we had to come up with other ways to fill the day. My kids are old enough now to amuse themselves for the most part, but here are a couple things we did together.

First up: Laser Beam Obstacle Course as featured on FlutterFlutter this week. (Rosa has great ideas; you should check out her entire Super Spy Party post.) I found a leftover skein of red yarn and wrapped it around as many things as I could. It was fun watching everyone go from “Why is there red yarn all over the house?” to “Ohhh. Laser beams.”

We’re finishing up Speech Bubble Week in our Craft-a-Day book, so Lily and I made speech bubbles for everyone in the family, including the furry members. The bubbles said things like “I’m awesome” and “I love Harry Styles” and “Meow.” They were all good sports about it except Nisa, who tried to eat hers.

Right about now Matthew and Dylan will be wondering, “Why didn’t our mom have cool ideas like Shannon?”

Hah! I’m sure they thought you had plenty of cool ideas, but it does help to have Pinterest nowadays. 🙂
